About Me

About Dr. David M. Connell

Take The First Step

I am a fully licensed clinical psychologist practicing psychotherapy/counseling for over forty years. For many years the folks I treat tell me I’m different from other therapists they have tried. I tend to be very quick to catch on with what is the essence of people’s problems and issues. These quickly gained therapeutic insights are then shared with down to earth, “keep it real”, kind of language that helps people quickly reach deeper understanding of their unique set of issues. I don’t just listen, I engage.

I am also different from other therapists because I am trained and have practiced for years from a perspective called Transpersonal Psychology, a blending of psychotherapy and spirituality. Within this perspective, I believe that the therapist and client are co-learners, discovering their own evolutionary path through emotional healing and spiritual growth. Promoting emotional healing through spiritual connectedness is my passion and life’s work. While I do not proselytize or try to convert people to a spiritual perspective, I have a deeply committed spiritual consciousness and endeavor to earnestly walk this committed path.

I have many years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, couples and groups. I have a special gift in establishing rapport with kids, of all ages. I have many years of personal questing for spiritual growth including seventeen years of formal Christian education, 34 years of training and ongoing practice in a form of yoga, utilizing meditation and Kundalini awakening.

My quest has taken me to India, Europe and parts of the United States to study with Gurus, Mother Theresa, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, Ram Dass, the Dali Lama, several theoretical physicists, i.e., David Bohm, Fritjof Capra, Deepak Chopra and neuroscientist Carl Pribram, among others who teach regarding the Holistic perspective. This Holistic perspective championed most recently by Deepak Chopra holds that we are all mind, body, spirit entities.

My doctoral dissertation researched stress and its remedy from this Holistic, Transpersonal perspective. Also, in the past fifteen years, I have been following the Red Path, training with, practicing and incorporating the teachings of Native peoples and Shamans.

My style is to be warm, non-judgmental, and very active with clients instead of just a supportive listener. My authentic style and communication approach, bringing humor and technical skills together help bring the Transpersonal perspective to life for those who wish to optimize their own journey of healing and growth.

I am especially quick to catch on and tend to give a lot of feedback and information to enable clients to raise their awareness and to develop new tools to better manage their life.

I am trained in EMDR, a specific treatment for trauma, which can produce quick relief to trauma symptoms and other anxiety issues. Also, I am especially adept at Inner Child work through a specialty in Transactional Analysis and Gestalt.

On the personal side, I am married and I have three children, five grandchildren, am a cancer survivor and been diagnosed with ADHD. So I have understanding and compassion for all who enter my healing practice. If further information is needed, please contact me and I will try to answer your questions.
